There is so much you can do with the footer on your blog
Any widget can be used in your blog’s footer.
The footer on your blog appears at the bottom of every page. The image below is an example of what it looks like at the start (lists of important links).
The footer can be used for lists of important links like above, or to display the contents of any widget that you choose.
One of the first things that you are going to want to do is update the list of social media links on the far right of the footer.
Managing Your Footer
To manage the footer area of your blog, go to your blog’s DASHBOARD and within the left-hand navigation, click on APPEARANCE > WIDGETS.
Now you can see all your available widgets on the left side of the page. On the right side of the page is where you can click and drag them into widgetized areas of your blog. Your blog will say “Primary” or “Sidebar” in the first widgetized area on the right side of the page. This is where all the sidebar widgets reside.
On the far right, you will also see Footers 1, 2, 3 and maybe a fourth if your theme supports four widgets within the footer. Click on the upside down arrow on the last footer (Footer 3 or Footer 4 depending on your theme).
Now click on the upside down triangle to the right of “Text: Social Media” to open it up. The word “Text” signifies that a text widget has been used in this widgetized area of the footer. Text widgets are blank widgets that are meant for any HTML code to be pasted in and used. Don’t worry, you don’t need to know anything about HTML code!
To add in the links to your own social media, highlight the portion of the HTML code that says /contact for the social network that you are trying to update. As an FYI, the /contact is simply a link to your blog’s contact page.
Now literally copy and past the full URL from the bowser when you are live on the particular social network of choice.
Here is an example below from our Facebook page, where we copied the full URL right out of the top of the browser.
Now paste that URL into the widget, carefully replacing just the /contact part of the code for that particular social network.
Now hit SAVE and repeat for the other social networks.
If you would like to delete a social network from the list, simply highlight, delete all the code associated with that social network and click on SAVE. Please see the image below for an example of how to delete Google+.
If you have some how deleted all the code, or altered it so that it no longer works, below is a copy of the default code that came with that social media widget. Jut copy and paste it back into the widget again to start over from scratch.
<a title=”Facebook” href=”/contact” target=”_blank”>Facebook</a>
<a title=”Google+” href=”/contact” target=”_blank”>Google+</a>
<a title=”Twitter” href=”/contact/” target=”_blank”>Twitter</a>
<a title=”YouTube” href=”/contact” target=”_blank”>YouTube</a>
<a title=”Pinterest” href=”/contact” target=”_blank”>Pinterest</a>
<a title=”LinkedIn” href=”/contact” target=”_blank”>LinkedIn</a>
HOW TO USE OTHER WIDGETS
You can delete the text widget from any of the widgetized areas of your blog by clicking on the “Delete” link shown in the image below.
Now just click on and drag over any other widget from the left of the page and release it within the same widgetized area where you just deleted the previous widget…and click SAVE.
